Nearly two decades have passed since María lost Manuel and was left alone to care for Nicolás and Manuela, the newborn daughter her husband never got to meet. During these years, she has managed to keep the Cervantes land going thanks to her courage and that of Claudia, the rebellious farmworker and illegitimate daughter of Don Ramón.

María will suffer new losses and will have to keep fighting to prevent the land from being lost, but above all to ensure that her children do not lose their sense of belonging and remain connected to the family and its heritage.

Times are changing: peasants are migrating, and the shortage of farm laborers is leading to the arrival of workers from poorer regions, as well as ambitious entrepreneurs willing to exploit the land without attachment or ties, investing more in machinery than in people. For the first time in a long while, María begins to notice someone, but the memory of Manuel will weigh heavily on her doubts; she will do everything possible to avoid the inevitable.
