Nebrija University and the television production company Boomerang TV have signed an academic collaboration agreement for the development of the Master’s Degree in Entertainment Program Creation, which aims to train “future” entertainment professionals.
The Master’s is the only one that covers all areas involved in the creation and production of entertainment programs. It is designed for students who want to enter this industry, whether as directors, producers, screenwriters, project writers, or in other equally relevant roles in program development (editors, directors, script supervisors, art directors, technical and/or creative professionals, format analysts, casting directors, camera operators, etc.). “It is a highly practical postgraduate program and prepares students to have a 360-degree view of how the television entertainment industry currently works,” says Jorge Pezzi, CEO of Boomerang TV.
The program is also innovative because it covers all formats within the entertainment field, from the most established to the most cutting-edge, from large talent shows to true crime, including documentaries, dating shows, audio entertainment, etc.
This practical training is perfectly aligned with the Faculty of Communication and Arts’ philosophy of learning by doing. It will be taught by a faculty made up of renowned professionals from the entertainment industry, including prominent Boomerang TV figures such as Encarna Pardo, Executive Director of Boomerang TV Entertainment and executive producer of shows such as La Voz, La Voz Kids, Pekín Express, among many others. These experts will give the courses a professional focus and contribute to energizing the Master’s extracurricular activities. This partnership will ultimately bring the real needs of today’s television entertainment sector into the academic curriculum.
“Agreements like the one we have just signed with Boomerang TV, one of the most important production companies in the audiovisual landscape, which in its more than 25-year history has produced highly successful and internationally recognized entertainment formats, are a clear example of the importance that the Faculty of Communication and Arts places on professional training that actively connects the academic sector with the audiovisual industry,” says Marta Saavedra, Vice Dean of the Faculty.
In this regard, for Boomerang TV CEO Jorge Pezzi, this agreement comes at a perfect time for the industry. “If fiction is in good health, television entertainment is not far behind. We are living a great moment for professionals in this sector. Every season new formats are launched, international shows are adapted, and streaming platforms have also decided to invest in reality shows and competitions.”
The agreement between both institutions also includes the possibility for postgraduate students to undertake professional internships in Boomerang TV entertainment projects, which, according to Nicolás Grijalba, Director of the Department of Communication, “will be a unique opportunity for our students to learn first-hand the day-to-day work of entertainment professionals.”
Representing Nebrija University at the signing were the Rector José Muñiz; the Director of the Nebrija Foundation, Gregorio Martínez; Vice Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Arts (FCA), Marta Saavedra; and the Director of the Department of Communication, Nicolás Grijalba. Representing Boomerang TV were its CEO Jorge Pezzi, also a former Nebrija University student; and Rosaura Díez, Communications Director of the production company.
