'La suerte' is directed by Paco Plaza (Verónica, REC) and Pablo Guerrero (Alba, Entre tierras), and stars Óscar Jaenada (Goya Award for Best Actor for Camarón, Platino Award for Best Actor for Cantinflas, Best Supporting Actor at Málaga Film Festival for Todos estamos invitados) and Ricardo Gómez (Goya nominee for Best New Actor for 1898: Los últimos de Filipinas, Feroz nominee for Best Actor for El sustituto, Feroz nominee for Best Supporting Actor for La ruta, Ondas Award for Best Series, Feroz Award for Best Drama Series for Cuéntame cómo pasó).
On participating in the festival, directors Paco Plaza and Pablo Guerrero said: "We are thrilled that Zinemaldi is the first place where our series will meet the audience. After 30 years of friendship, La suerte has given us the opportunity to work together and explore the unique lives and codes of these characters, a world in itself yet contemporary to ours. These unique characters are embodied by an extraordinary cast, and we hope to delight the audience in Donostia. May luck be on our side."
Synopsis
In 'La suerte', shy taxi driver David (Ricardo Gómez) unexpectedly becomes the chauffeur for El Maestro (Óscar Jaenada), a retired bullfighter returning to regain his lost prestige. The Maestro’s career is declining, and David supposedly brings him luck—at least, that’s what he claims.
The series ensemble also includes Carlos Bernardino (Modelo 77), Óscar Higares (Entrevías), Pedro Bachura (Antidisturbios, Venus), Jason Fernández (Extraña forma de vida), Óscar Reyes (Aída, La vida padre), Almudena Amor (Goya nominee for Best New Actress for El buen patrón), Almudena Cid (El secreto de Puente Viejo), Diana Peñalver (Cristo Rey), Aria Bedmar (Hermana muerte), Manuel Morón (La espera, Crematorio), among others.
Written by Diana Rojo and Borja González Santaolalla, the series combines Plaza and Guerrero’s story concept with a charming, eccentric comedic tone. Pablo Rosso, Plaza’s longtime collaborator, is the director of photography, giving each episode its own visual identity. The series, shot on 16 mm film, spans over 6,000 kilometers across Spain, featuring more than 59 locations, including iconic bullrings such as La Caprichosa (Talavera), Las Ventas (Madrid), La Misericordia (Zaragoza), and La Malagueta (Málaga).
Produced in collaboration with Boomerang TV, the original series La suerte will be available exclusively on Disney+.
