Who said teaching was easy?

The series deals with the world of teaching, seen through the eyes of some young, junior teachers, who have recently started work at a secondary school. The arrival of these young teachers will reveal a universe full of conflicts, involving a group of teenagers and the people in their environment.
Our new teachers are young, enthusiastic, insecure and immature. They have not yet worked out many things in their lives but, all the same, have to act as guides for the adolescents. HOW? The young teachers discover as the chapters progress that the best way to learn is … when you have to teach.
“Physics or Chemistry” sets out to show the teaching world, with a realistic touch of humour, from the point of view of these teachers, while at the same time offering a vision of adolescence and youth through the issues which are unfortunately predominant in schools today: violence, lack of motivation in the pupils …

The plots revolve around the issues?which concern and surround modern teenagers and their teachers: studies, sex, violence in the classrooms and social problems.
There will be two types of characters: teachers and pupils. Although the principal point of view will always be that of the teachers who have just started at the school.
One of the characteristics of the series, affecting the way in which each chapter is constructed, will be the juxtaposition of what happens to the pupils and what happens to the teachers. It is all interconnected. And there will be times when we wonder which of the two groups is more mixed-up .
On many occasions the teachers will be transmitting values which they themselves find very difficult to apply, or which, without realising, they are violating in their own private lives …
“Physics or Chemistry” begins like this: … The beginning of September. A 27-year-old girl meets a boy on the way out of a discothèque. He is rather young, just 19, he says, but despite the age difference there is a strong attraction and they end up in bed. A few days later, the girl starts her new job as a teacher and there discovers that the boy she went to bed with is one of her pupils. The Deputy Head discovers that his son, with whom he has a bad relationship, has been hired as Art teacher in the very school where he works. The father is not at all pleased to have him working there, and will try to make life impossible for him right from the beginning, making unreasonable demands, in the hope that he will give up and resign. But the son is stronger than his father had imagined …

Yolanda
Aged 16. Yoli is a girl who is proud of her humble suburban background. Naturally sociable. She is crazy about boys, and is disarmingly spontaneous in her approach.

Ruth
Aged 16. She is the daughter of Clara, the school headmistress’ ex husband. She is an attractive girl and knows it. She will exaggerate this to hide her fragility.

Roque
Art teacher. Attractive, self assured and very intelligent. He has an excellent relationship with his pupils, but an impossible relationship with his father, the school Deputy Head.

Paula
Aged 16. Issac’s sister. Naïve but with character. She gets on very well with Jan, a new pupil of Chinese origin, but sees him as just a
good friend, albeit one with whom she spends more and more hours every day.

Olimpia
English teacher. A hard nut to crack. She is strict with the pupils because she wants to teach them the subject, not be their friend. Her marriage to Félix has gone through better times.

Julio
Aged 18. A rather attractive boy. A born sportsman who finds it hard to express his feelings, although honourable in character.

Irene
Philosophy and Ethics teacher. She is chaotic, brilliant and complicated. She studied philosophy and never thought of taking up teaching, but soon discovers that she is really good at what she is doing.

Gorka
Aged 16. Conflictive, self assured, and with a certain charm despite his malicious intentions. Many teachers see him as a lost cause. He will date Ruth and cause her a lot of suffering.

Fer
Aged 16. Highly intelligent, but lately shut away in his own world. The school will discover that he is gay and will start to harass him.

Cova
Aged 16. Always worried about other people, about ecology, about famine in the world … Caring to the point of exasperation.

Clara
The headmistress. Pleasant looking, self assured, with an ironic touch. This liberal minded woman runs the school efficiently, but without needing to raise her voice.

Cabano
Aged 16. He is lucky and knows it. Born into a wealthy family, he is good-looking and intelligent, although all is not well in his life. He and Gorka will become inseparable.

Blanca
Literature teacher. Sweet, very sociable and rather traditional. Unlike Irene, teaching for her is a vocation. In spite of this, she will not find it easy to tackle her first job.

Adolfo
Director of Studies. He demands as much of his pupils as he does of himself. Now he will have to accept that his son has joined the school teaching staff, a fact that he does not like in the least.
